On February 16th, 2007 the sun was shining, it was in the 50's temperature wise...just a nice day in the middle of a miserable winter... so I decided to go out to the Iki' Moku and open some hatches and let some fresh air in. I also decided to just generally look things over, and I notices that my rudder was warped! It already had a small crack, which I planned to repair in the spring. No, the question is how do I make the needed repairs? I am going to ask the 'trailersailor' experts at the westwightpotter Board on the trailersailor.com website. As the suggestions pour in, I will decide which way I want to go, then will post the repair process here. Some items to take into consideration:
1) I do not have a shop. I will be working with hand tools on the boat, or a small deck on my apartment. I do not have access to drill presses, lathes, etc.., nor even an inside work space!
2) I am a cruiser, not a racer (witness the WWP-19). I want this to be good and strong and work well.
3) I want to stay with the 'lifting' type of rudder set up I have right now. I do not want to change to a different style of rudder, though I am open to using a different material.
Okay...Now, here are a couple pictures of what the rudder looks like.

Notice the crack in the center and the cupping?

Here's a shot show how High the crack goes...
So, know that this rudder needs to slide up and down inside it's lifting frame, how would you precede?
