Many folks use the original deck plate on the bow of the potter, the one that goes into the chain locker, for vetalation and add a chain pipe for the chain/rode. I made my own design. I used sunbrella to construct a opening and closing item that the cahin, shakles, and rode can easily be pulled through, plus it can easily be tied shut to alleviate any water from entering... Here are a couple pictures. It is pretty straight forward, but please note the use of wire ties to hold the sunbrella open. It makes movement of the chain and the rode easier as it does not hang up on the sunbrella.
You do not Have to open as wide as shown above, but you can if you need to...
I made some adjustments to my anchor set up. I wanted to use a bruce anchor, and to do that I needed to replace the above set up with something more suited to a claw style anchor....These pretty much explain themselves...The anchor roller is a BRM2 from Windline. I bought it from http://dfender.com Here are some photos.
