The Auot Pilot "OTTO"...named after my great grandfather Otto.
One of the first things I start planning for when I get a new boat is an auto pilot. The freedom that an additional pair of hands gives, especially for someone who single hands most of the time, is incredible!
The above head on shot shows the intsallation. You want the tiller pilot to be square, and as level as possible for best operation.
The socket needs to be well supported. The socket here is backed up by a block of wood, and epoxy. As you can see on the top picture, and the one below this one, I used a drop down bracket on the tiller for the arm on the auto pilot...Makes for a clean, level install.
You can see in this picture that I did not drill a hole to mount the power socket. I decided instead to turn the power feed into a power cord of sorts. One I can roll up and stow below when not using the auto pilot. Also please note the fancy line work on the tiller...I spent a cold wintery weekend doing that, and am very happy with the results!
Please use your back botton to return to the home page...
